Who Was Major General Hossein Salami?

Early Life and Military Beginnings

Hossein Salami was born in 1960 in Iran. His journey into military service began during the Iran-Iraq War, a pivotal conflict that shaped modern Iran’s military doctrine. Enlisting as a young college student in 1980, Salami demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, quickly rising through the ranks of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Rise Through the Ranks

Salami’s dedication and strategic acumen earned him the position of deputy commander of the IRGC, where he was instrumental in expanding Iran’s military capabilities. His fiery speeches and aggressive stance against Israel, the United States, and regional adversaries made him a prominent figure in Iran’s military hierarchy.

Appointed as IRGC Commander-in-Chief

On April 21, 2019, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei appointed Hossein Salami as the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, succeeding Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari. Under his leadership, the IRGC intensified its military operations, strengthened its missile program, and expanded its influence across the Middle East.
