Heartfelt Tribute: Ali Azimi Celebrates Pegah Ahangarani’s Birthday with Love
Sakkou Productions and Contributions to Iranian Music
In 2010, Ali Azimi founded Sakkou Productions, documenting the alternative and underground Iranian music scene. Sakkou Productions has produced a documentary series on ManotoTV and YouTube, showcasing Iranian musicians who face restrictions in expressing their art within Iran. Azimi’s own music, along with shows and events, have been produced under this label.
Radio Tehran and Beyond
Azimi formed the rock band Radio Tehran in 2009, releasing the album 88, which addressed issues faced by young Iranians. His solo debut album, Mr. Mean, released in 2013, included major hits like “Prelude” and “Aghaye Past.” The music video for the song “Mr. Mean” won first prize at the Farhang Foundation’s short film festival.
Tours and Recent Works
Following a successful tour of Europe, America, and Canada in 2014 for his album Mr. Mean, Azimi released his second solo album, Ezzat Ziad, in June 2016. This album featured hit songs like “Farda Soraghe Man Bia” (featuring Mohsen Namjoo) and “Zendegi,” based on a poem by Houshang Ebtehaj. Azimi and his band embarked on an extensive tour covering 15 cities across Europe and North America.
Continued Impact and Recent Releases
Ali Azimi continues to create and share music, often reflecting on current events. In 2021, he released the song “Khooneyeh Bahar” (Spring’s Home) in response to the 2019–2020 Iranian protests. His uncredited performance of his composition “Pishdaramad” was featured in the Oscar-winning movie The Salesman by Asghar Farhadi.
In October 2019, Azimi released his anticipated third album, Of Love and Other Evils, which includes popular tracks like “Heyhot” and “Panahandeh.” Following the album release, Azimi embarked on a worldwide tour, starting in Europe in the fall of 2019. Despite a pause in 2020/2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he has resumed touring regularly across Europe and North America.
