Hamid Nouri’s Cries in the House of Martyr Amirabdollahian: 5 Key Lessons in Justice
Arrest and Investigation
On November 9, 2019, Swedish police arrested Nouri at Arlanda Airport following a tip-off from his former son-in-law. The investigation, organized by the Borumand Foundation and conducted by Geoffrey Robertson QC, concluded that egregious violations of international human rights laws had been committed by the regime in Iran.
The investigation aimed to bring all involved officials, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and President Ebrahim Raisi, to trial for the 1988 massacre.
Trial Details
Nouri was charged with murder and serious crimes against international law, accused of providing names to prosecutors, issuing death sentences, and escorting prisoners to execution chambers. The trial started in August 2021 in Stockholm District Court and lasted 92 days, concluding in May 2022. Nouri’s lawyer countered all claims, but the prosecution requested the maximum sentence of life imprisonment.
