Funeral Ceremony of the Late Dr. Zahra Shojaei

Dr. Zahra Shojaei, a major force in Iran’s political sphere and ardent supporter of women’s rights, passed away at 67 years old on March 26, 2024. Many important people and a large number of citizens attended the funeral.

Dr. Shojaei started her legacy as a feminist in Iran when she became the head of the Center for Women’s Participation Affairs from 1997 to 2005 under President Mohammad Khatami. She helped introduce policies that sought to better women’s rights as well as increase their presence among various Iranian communities.

In office, Dr. Shojaei worked unceasingly towards gender equality and empowering women to participate actively in politics, social issues, and economies. Despite encountering obstacles and opposition along the way, her commitment to this cause has laid the foundation for moving forward on women’s rights in Iran.
