The Metropol building was an unfinished ten-story residential and commercial building in the city of Abadan in the province of Khuzestan. Although the building was legally allowed to have only six stories, four additional floors had been added during construction. Later that day Mehr News Agency reported that more than 80 people were trapped under the building’s rubble.
