ROME, Sept 25 (Reuters) – Elon Musk addressed rumors on Wednesday, denying any romantic involvement with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This came in response to a joke circulating after the two publicly exchanged mutual praise at a high-profile event in New York earlier in the week, sparking headlines across Europe and the U.S.
Social media buzzed with images of Musk and Meloni together at the black-tie Global Citizen Awards, where Musk presented her with an honor from the Atlantic Council. One viral photo, showing the two sitting together at a banquet table, led to speculation and light-hearted commentary, with the New York Post dubbing the event a “public love-in” between the world’s richest man and Italy’s first female prime minister.
In response to a post with the caption “we all know what happened next,” featuring the photo of Musk and Meloni looking at each other, Musk took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify. “I was there with my Mom. There is no romantic relationship whatsoever with PM Meloni,” he wrote, dismissing the rumor with humor.
At the gala, Musk praised Meloni for her leadership, saying she was “even more beautiful on the inside than the outside,” while Meloni reciprocated, referring to Musk as a “precious genius.” The Italian Prime Minister, who separated from her long-term partner in 2023, reportedly requested that Musk be the one to present her with the Global Citizen Award.
Their rapport has garnered attention, particularly as Musk flew to Italy twice in 2023 to meet with Meloni, first in June and then again in December. However, despite the growing media interest in their interactions, Musk was quick to put the affair rumors to rest.
