Ebrahim Hamedi, widely known by his stage name Ebi, stands as a legendary figure in Iranian pop music. Born in 1949, Ebi began his musical journey in Tehran and Karaj, initially gaining recognition as part of various bands before flourishing into a solo performer. The singer, who moved to Los Angeles in 1977, has faced the challenges of exile while maintaining a prolific career that spans over five decades.
Early Life and Musical Beginnings: Ebi’s roots trace back to Arak, where his father hailed from, and Karaj, his mother’s hometown. Growing up in Khorramdareh as the eldest of six siblings, Ebi discovered his passion for singing early on. In an interview with Radio Zamaneh in 2008, he revealed that he had been entertaining family, schoolmates, and neighborhood children with his singing since childhood. Ebi’s connection with music deepened, and he even shared his fondness for reciting the Quran during school gatherings.
