Military Service and Combat Experience
In 1967, after completing high school, Netanyahu returned to Israel and enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). He underwent rigorous training and joined the elite special forces unit, Sayeret Matkal. Netanyahu quickly rose through the ranks and became a team leader in the unit. He participated in numerous cross-border raids during the War of Attrition (1967–1970), displaying exceptional bravery and dedication.
Throughout his military career, Netanyahu was wounded in combat multiple times, showcasing his commitment to defending Israel. Notably, he played a significant role in the daring rescue of hostages from the hijacked Sabena Flight 571 in 1972. Despite being shot in the shoulder during the operation, his bravery earned him accolades and further solidified his reputation as a courageous leader.
