The Journey of Behrouz Vosoughi: The “Emperor” of Cinema

Personal Life: Marriages and Relationships
First Marriage with Googoosh
In 1975, Vosoughi married the iconic Persian singer and actress Googoosh, known for her powerful voice and significant impact on Iranian pop culture. Their marriage was a high-profile union that captured the public’s imagination. However, the relationship was short-lived, ending in divorce just a year later. Prior to marrying Googoosh, Vosoughi had a lengthy relationship with Pouri Bonai, which reportedly ended due to personal struggles both faced.
Second Marriage and Family Life
In 1977, just two years after his split from Googoosh, Vosoughi married Katayoun Amjadi, and together they welcomed two children, Mahshid and Mahan. This marriage provided a more stable foundation for Vosoughi, allowing him to support his family while continuing to build his career in the film industry.
Life in America
Following the 1979 Iranian Revolution, Vosoughi, like many Iranian artists at the time, found himself in exile. He had traveled to the United States to star in The Cat in a Cage, directed by Mohammad Zarrindast, but he never returned to Iran. The political climate and unrest made it impossible for him to go back, and he ultimately established a new life in America.
This period in the United States marked a significant transition in Vosoughi’s career. He navigated the challenges of being an immigrant artist while striving to maintain his connection to Iranian culture through his work.
