A Doctor Reflects on His Marriage

Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian shared insights about his marriage, recounting their early years: “My wife and I were university students and members of the Islamic Society. At that time, there were only two female students in Chaudari University, and one of them was my wife. When the universities closed due to the Cultural Revolution, I proposed, and we married simply with a dowry of a volume of the Holy Qur’an, a volume of Mufatih al-Jinan, and a branch of Nabat, continuing our student life.”

The couple’s commitment extended beyond their studies. “My wife and I were responsible for the emergency teams of the Ashura division. During every operation, we gathered the children and took them to the front. We persevered through many difficulties. After the war, we focused on solving people’s problems, which was a driving force behind the revolution. To do this, we needed to acquire skills. When university work was done, I would come home to help my wife with her studies.”

After the war, their dedication to education paid off. “In our written exams, I ranked second in the country and my wife first. She became a gynecologist, and I became a heart surgeon. All our efforts were dedicated to solving people’s problems. While I pursued cardiology, she specialized in infertility.”
