The Significance of Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani and Sayyid Hassan Khomeini’s Presence at the Shab Qadr Ceremony
The Shab Qadr ceremony had an atmosphere of respect, while the 19th night of Ramadan was celebrated with immense pomp and ceremony at the Holy Shrine of Imam Khomeini (PBUH), where dignitaries thronged. Those in attendance included Mehdi Hashemi, the son of Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, and Ahmad Khomeini, the son of Sayyid Hassan Khomeini.
Born on September 20, 1969, in Tehran, Iran, Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani is an Iranian businessman commonly referred to as “Aghazadeh.” From renowned institutions in his country, he went up the ladder to acquire a master’s degree from Sharif University of Technology. Notably, he pursued a PhD at Wolfson College Oxford in Iranian Constitutional Studies.
Nonetheless, his life turned topsy-turvy following his entanglement in the Statoil corruption scandal. Claims were leveled against him for fraudulent activities leading to his detention at Evin Prison since August 11, 2015.
On the other hand, Sayyid Hassan Khomeini, born on July 23, 1972,1972 emerges as one of the prominent Iranian clerics who hails from the Ruhollah Khomeini family, which led to the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He became custodian of the Mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in 1995, which is a very important spiritual position he holds today. Additionally, Khomeini has been teaching in Qom and writing insightful books about Islamic sects.
Moreover, Hassan Khomeini’s entry into politics has sparked some rumors about his future political path. Despite certain drawbacks, such as being barred by the Guardian Council from contesting the Assembly of Experts polls last year, he has managed to leave an indelible print on Iran’s politics. The media got excited when it heard that there were high chances for him to stand for the presidency in 2021, but in the end, he submitted to the advice of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani and Sayyid Hassan Khomeini feature prominently in the intricate fabric of Iranian politics, as they represent a mix of heritage, ideology, and dreams about the future of their nation.
