Why did Homa Darabi set herself on fire in protest against the mandatory hijab?
Homa Darabi, who set herself on fire in Tajrish Square on March 2, 1372, to “protest the mandatory hijab and anti-women laws” of the Republic, died a few hours later in the early hours of March 3, due to severe burns. She was born in 1318, joined the People’s Party as a student, and was one of the first women to form the National Front Women’s Organization along with Parvaneh Forohar.
