The Children of Ant Hill Cult: A Dark Chapter in Cult History and Its Horrific Crimes
3.1 The Cult’s Medical Madness
Contradicting any semblance of medical ethics, Roch Thériault performed unscientific, often fatal surgeries on his followers. His pathological obsession with healing and power led him to conduct dangerous procedures, including forced circumcisions and self-taught surgeries.
3.2 Methods and Incidents
Thériault injected toxic solutions—such as ethanol—into followers’ stomachs, causing severe internal damage. In one notorious case, he performed a makeshift operation on Solange Boilard, who was suffering from stomach pains. He made her lie naked on a table, hit her in the stomach, and injected her with a mixture of substances, eventually removing part of her intestines with his hands. She died from her injuries, but Thériault claimed to have supernatural healing powers.
3.3 The Cult’s Decline and Early Interventions
In 1987, social workers intervened after receiving reports of abuse and neglect, removing 17 children from the commune. Despite this, Thériault’s influence persisted. He continued performing surgeries, including the notorious incident in 1989 where he forcibly removed a woman’s appendix and intestines, leading to her death.
