Rising Tensions: Global Security, Middle East Conflict, and Geopolitical Impact

Historical Background of the U.S.–Iran Conflict

The tension between the United States and Iran can be traced back several decades. Prior to 1979, Iran was a close ally of the United States under the leadership of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran.

However, everything changed during the Iranian Revolution of 1979. The revolution led to the overthrow of the Shah and the establishment of the Islamic Republic under Ruhollah Khomeini.

Following the revolution, relations between the United States and Iran deteriorated dramatically. One of the most defining moments was the Iran hostage crisis, during which 52 American diplomats and citizens were held hostage in Tehran for 444 days.

Since then, Iran and the United States have remained adversaries, engaging in political, economic, and strategic confrontations across the Middle East.
