Escalation of Conflict Triggers Civilian Exodus

The surge in border crossings began shortly after Iranian state media confirmed the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following coordinated missile strikes by the United States and Israel. The confirmation marked a turning point in the conflict, triggering retaliatory missile attacks, drone strikes, and warnings of prolonged military engagement.

As fears of expanded warfare grew, civilians in Tehran, Tabriz, Isfahan, and other major urban centers began seeking exit routes. With commercial aviation limited and regional airports operating under emergency protocols, the land route to Turkey became the most viable and immediate option for those able to travel.
