Refugees in Turkey: nationals are arriving in Turkey through the Razi-Kapikoy border crossing

Introduction

The Turkey–Iran border crossing crisis has rapidly become one of the most searched global news topics following the dramatic escalation of the Iran–US–Israel conflict in March 2026. As airstrikes intensified across major Iranian cities and regional tensions soared, thousands of Iranian nationals and foreign citizens began attempting to leave Iran through land routes, particularly via the Razi-Kapıköy Border Crossing in eastern Turkey.

With international flights disrupted and airspace partially restricted, land borders became critical exit corridors. The result has been a surge in border traffic between Iran and Turkey, suspension of day-trip crossings, emergency security measures, and growing humanitarian concerns.

Iran’s state media officially confirmed that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei died as a result of coordinated United States and Israeli missile strikes on February 28, 2026. Multiple senior Iranian military commanders were also reported dead, and Iran announced mobilization of constitutional mechanisms for leadership continuity.

This strike marked a dramatic escalation in regional tensions, with Tehran vowing vengeance and launching retaliatory ballistic and drone attacks against Israeli targets and U.S. military bases in the Gulf.
