Ali Akbar Nategh-Nouri: Prominent Iranian Politician and Former Speaker of Parliament
Ali Akbar Nategh-Nouri is a renowned Iranian politician known for his significant contributions to Iran’s political landscape. Serving as the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament from 1992 to 2000, he played a pivotal role in shaping Iran’s legislative policies. As a former Iranian Interior Minister, his influence extended to domestic security and governance.
Born on October 6, 1944, Nategh-Nouri has a rich educational background with a seminary education up to jurisprudence and principles, along with a bachelor’s degree in theology from Tehran University. His early life was marked by activism against the Shah’s regime, and he was closely associated with Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Throughout his career, Ali Akbar Nategh-Nouri has been a key figure in Iranian politics, including running as a presidential candidate in Iran’s 1997 election, where he was considered Khamenei’s preferred candidate. Despite losing to Mohammad Khatami, he garnered nearly seven million votes.
He also served as an advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader until his resignation in 2017. A supporter of President Hassan Rouhani and a critic of former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Nategh-Nouri remains an influential voice in Iran’s political discourse.
Recently, the ceremony marking the third day of the passing of Mohammad Nateg Nouri was held at Fakhr al-Dawlah Mosque in Tehran, attended by top political figures, military officials, and civil authorities, reflecting his legacy in Iran’s history.
