Life Between Ceasefire and Uncertainty: Daily Life in Northern Tehran as War Looms Again
A City That Refuses to Pause
Northern Tehran, known for its relatively affluent neighborhoods, offers a striking image of resilience. Fruit markets remain vibrant, stacked with oranges, herbs, and pomegranates. Vendors call out prices, customers bargain, and life appears—at least outwardly—unchanged.
But conversations tell a different story.
People no longer ask, “How are you?” without also asking, “What do you think will happen?” The uncertainty surrounding the ceasefire has become embedded in daily routines. Shoppers pause mid-purchase to check their phones. Taxi drivers follow geopolitical updates as closely as traffic conditions.
The rhythm of life continues, but it is punctuated by hesitation.
