Despair in Afghan Neighborhood in Southern Tehran After Devastating Bombing

Children Traumatized by Violence

Children are among the most affected. Many have lost parents, siblings, or friends, and the trauma of witnessing violence at such a young age leaves lasting scars. Psychologists warn of long-term mental health consequences, including anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress. Yet access to mental health services is scarce, particularly for migrant populations. In the absence of professional support, families rely on each other, even as they themselves struggle to cope.

Education Interrupted and Futures at Risk

Education has also been disrupted. Schools in the area have been damaged or closed, and displaced children face uncertainty about when—or if—they will return to class. For many Afghan families, education was seen as a pathway to a better future, a chance for their children to escape cycles of poverty and instability. The interruption of schooling not only affects academic progress but also removes a critical source of routine and stability in children’s lives.
