Despair in Afghan Neighborhood in Southern Tehran After Devastating Bombing
Community Networks Under Strain
The Afghan community in southern Tehran has long relied on strong social networks for support. However, the scale of the disaster has stretched these networks to their limits. Families that once helped each other are now simultaneously in need, reducing their ability to provide assistance. Despite this strain, efforts to maintain solidarity continue, with community members organizing shared meals and pooling resources whenever possible.
Children Forced to Grow Up Too Soon
The bombing has forced many children into roles beyond their years. Older siblings take on responsibilities such as caring for younger family members or seeking work to contribute to household income. Childhood, once filled with simple joys, is now overshadowed by hardship and responsibility. This premature transition into adulthood carries long-term implications for their development and well-being.
