Role in Regional Conflicts and Operations

Hajizadeh was not only a strategic military leader but also deeply involved in Iran’s regional military engagements and covert operations. He was one of the main figures behind Iran’s military support for allied groups and proxies across the Middle East, including in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq. His statements made it clear that Iran’s support extended beyond mere ideological backing to active military assistance, including arming and training allied forces.

Most notably, Hajizadeh played a key role in orchestrating and overseeing Iran’s missile strikes against Israel. During April 2024, he was instrumental in leading Iran’s operations known within Iran as Operation True Promise, which targeted Israeli military and civilian infrastructure. These strikes marked a significant escalation in Iran’s regional military posture and were perceived as a show of Iran’s willingness to directly confront Israel through proxy and asymmetric warfare.

In October 2024, Iran launched Operation True Promise 2, a large-scale missile and drone campaign against Israeli targets. Hajizadeh publicly expressed his hope and anticipation for another opportunity to execute such an operation, stating on 1 July 2024: “We are hopeful of the arrival of the opportunity for [conducting] Operation True Promise 2…” His words reflected both his confidence in Iran’s military capabilities and his desire to intensify Iran’s confrontation with Israel.

Hajizadeh often emphasized that Iran’s military support extended to its regional allies, asserting: “As it is obvious from the weapons of our dear ones in Palestine, Lebanon and elsewhere, it has now become clear that they are in fact being helped and supplied by Iran.” He believed that Iran’s weapon supplies and strategic assistance were vital for these groups’ resistance against Israel and other regional adversaries. During a televised speech on 1 December 2023, he stated: “Look, some people ask what the Islamic Republic has done with regard to Gaza. The Islamic Republic has done what it had to do. Until not so long ago their only means of defense was stones. Today they are defending themselves with rockets and they have advanced weapons and capabilities.” This statement underscored his pride in Iran’s role in empowering Palestinian resistance groups.
