Biography of Puri Banai: The Untold Story of Betrayal, Success, and Love

Life After the Iranian Revolution

The biography of Puri Banai takes a dramatic shift with the Iranian Revolution of 1979. During this turbulent time, many actors faced scrutiny, and Puri was no exception. She was summoned to Evin Prison and questioned by the Revolutionary Court numerous times. Despite these challenges, Puri was not banned from continuing her artistic career, though she chose to withdraw from cinema. Her final performance before stepping away from the industry was in “Maryam and Mani” (1978). Following the revolution, Puri’s reluctance to participate in the evolving landscape of Iranian cinema meant that she did not appear in any new roles for many years. However, in 2006, Puri made a brief comeback, starring in Abbas Kiarostami’s “Shirin” at the filmmaker’s request, which paid homage to the great actresses of Iranian cinema.
