Combating Censorship: Arbabi’s Global Art Project

In 2013, Saman Arbabi showcased his commitment to freedom of expression at the SXSW conference with a thought-provoking talk titled “Iranian Outlaws: Satire vs. Censorship.” During the presentation, he unveiled his ambitious project, “Weapons of Mouse Destruction,” aimed at fighting internet censorship on a global scale. Collaborating with renowned counter-culture artist Shepard Fairey and involving Twitter co-founder Evan Williams, Arbabi’s project aimed to raise awareness and inspire change. The impact of his work was further highlighted when OnTen aired a special message to the Iranian people from the legendary musician Bono of U2.

A Journey Shaped by Circumstances: From Iran to the United States

Saman Arbabi’s life journey has been shaped by significant events. Born in 1973, he made the decision to move to France at the age of 13 to avoid being drafted into the Iran-Iraq War. In 1986, he relocated to the United States, where he pursued higher education. Arbabi holds a Bachelor of Science in Communications with a Minor in Art from the University of Maryland, which provided a strong foundation for his future endeavors in the media industry.
